Overview

Between December 2023 and March 2024, SmartSana Technologies successfully designed and implemented a solar power system at Lycée Bilingue d’Esée as part of the PADESC program. Located in the remote village of Esse in Central Cameroon, this system now powers the computer lab, enabling digital literacy for students in an area with limited access to reliable electricity. The installation supports educational development and provides the school with a sustainable, clean energy source.

Scope of Work

Scope of Work:
SmartSana Technologies provided a full solar power system for the computer and secretariat of the Lycée Bilingue d’Esée. The installation was carried out in two phases:

  • Phase 1 (December 2023): Installation of a 3KVA Solar Power System with a 400Ah battery bank to power the computer lab and the school’s secretariat. The solar system was designed to provide reliable energy, ensuring the smooth functioning of the school’s computer facilities.
  • Phase 2 (March 2024): Installation of a 65-inch Smart Digital Board for the computer lab, which enhances the digital learning experience for students.

This system powers the computer lab, which has 6 desktop computers, enabling students in Esse to access modern educational tools and fostering digital literacy.

Challenges Overcome:

Remote Location: Ensuring a stable energy solution in a rural area with limited infrastructure.

Reliable Power Supply: Providing consistent power for critical learning tools, especially in areas with frequent power outages.

Training and Knowledge Transfer: Empowering the school staff with the necessary skills to maintain the system and monitor its performance.

Solution Provided:

SmartSana Technologies designed and installed a customized solar power system that ensures 24/7 operation for the computer lab and secretariat. The solar power system, combined with the smart digital board, has helped bridge the gap in education for students who would otherwise lack access to reliable technology, improving their ability to learn and engage with digital resources.

Project Objectives:

  • To provide sustainable and reliable electricity to the computer lab in a remote village.
  • To promote digital literacy by powering a computer lab with solar energy.
  • To contribute to the sustainable development of education in underserved areas.

System Specifications:

  • Solar Power System: 3KVA Solar Power System with 400Ah battery bank
  • Battery Storage Capacity: 400Ah
  • Smart Digital Board: 65-inch Smart Digital Board
  • Computers Powered: 6 desktop computers
  • Backup Power: Solar-powered with energy storage for continuous operation

Impact and Significance of the Project:
This project has significantly enhanced the educational experience for students at Lycée Bilingue d’Esée, enabling them to learn digital skills and access modern educational tools that were previously unavailable. By providing reliable and sustainable solar power, SmartSana Technologies has contributed to reducing the digital divide and fostering educational development in remote regions of Cameroon.

Future Recommendations:
We recommend a bi-annual maintenance schedule for the solar system to ensure optimal performance and longevity of the equipment. Additionally, we suggest that the school staff receive regular training on the system’s operation and maintenance to ensure smooth functioning.

Next Steps:

Expansion of the solar system’s capacity as the school grows, to include additional classrooms or learning facilities.

Continued monitoring and support of the system’s performance.
