Overview

Building on the success of the initial phase, SmartSana Technologies embarked on the second phase of its ambitious project to further support the TIDE Program’s objectives in Cameroon. In January 2021, we extended our mission to enhance healthcare services through sustainable energy solutions, deploying advanced 3.5 KVA Solar Power Systems in an additional nine health facilities across the East and Centre Regions. This expansion, funded by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), aimed to bolster HIV prevention, care, and treatment services by ensuring a reliable power supply for critical healthcare operations.

Project Expansion and Objectives

The second phase targeted six facilities in the East Region and three in the Centre Region, focusing on powering essential Cold Chain Equipment (CCE) and centrifuges for the storage and processing of HIV blood samples. The enhanced facilities include:

Facilities Enhanced

East Region:

  • CMA Belabo
  • HR Bertoua
  • HP Garoua Boulai
  • CHC Batouri
  • CSC Nkolbikon
  • CSI Mokolo I

Centre Region:

  • HD Ayos
  • HD Akonolinga
  • HD Nanga-Eboko

Impact and Significance

The extension of solar power systems to these additional health facilities underscores SmartSana Technologies’ commitment to facilitating uninterrupted healthcare services, even in the face of Cameroon’s energy grid challenges and the high costs of fuel. By ensuring a steady and sustainable power source:

  • Improved Diagnostic and Treatment Services: The project significantly boosts the capacity for reliable HIV testing and treatment, courtesy of uninterrupted operation of CCE and centrifuges.
  • Operational Excellence: Healthcare facilities can now operate more efficiently, with dependable power for essential medical and administrative tasks.
  • Sustainable Healthcare Practice: Embracing solar energy contributes to a reduction in carbon emissions and fosters a shift towards greener, more sustainable healthcare solutions in Cameroon.

Moving Forward

This second phase not only amplifies the impact of the TIDE Program but also reinforces the importance of sustainable energy solutions in addressing healthcare challenges. SmartSana Technologies remains dedicated to pioneering projects that combine technological innovation with healthcare, ensuring that communities across Cameroon have access to reliable and efficient healthcare services.
